Course entry year:

Advancing Practice in Occupational Therapy - MSc/PgDip

Are you a qualified working occupational therapist who wants to advance your practice? As part of our  Advancing Professional Practice Framework, this part-time online MSc/PgDip in Advancing Practice in Occupational Therapy pathway aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become dynamic leaders of innovative, person-centred change that advances Occupational Therapy practice.

There are learning opportunities that align with the four pillars of clinical practice: professional practice, research, leadership, and facilitating learning. Our modules offer opportunities to place your professional practice at the heart of your studies. Through critical reflection, collaboration and enquiry, you'll explore issues that matter to your organisation, develop research-informed solutions, and generate improvements that deliver lasting value for colleagues, services and learners.

As online teaching is asynchronous (ie not delivered in real time), it suits you regardless of your time zone or working hours. Synchronous online seminars support learning across many modules and are scheduled at times that suit most participants in those modules. Sessions will be recorded for anyone unable to attend.

Why QMU?

  • Educationally and practice-relevant postgraduate framework: This award will enable occupational therapists to advance their professional development in clinical practice, education and learning, leadership, management, and research.
  • Flexible online study options: The course offers options that are responsive to individual needs and to today’s culture of work and learning. Single module study is also available.
  • Multi-professional learning and cross-institutional input: Based on a model of collaborative multi-professional learning, the framework also offers opportunities to draw on expertise across the University in subjects such as leadership, social science, and education.
  • Make a difference in people’s lives: Framework modules will help you develop your skills and knowledge and contribute to the health of our nation and beyond.
  • Theoretical and practically focused: Learning and teaching are underpinned by research, evidence and scholarship against the background of the current and evolving political and social landscape for health and wellbeing.
