QMU Sports Centre

Queen Margaret University Sports Centre offers a range of facilities to staff, students and the general public. We provide a safe, friendly and informative environment so you can enjoy your chosen sport to the full.

Our fully qualified, friendly and professional staff endeavour to provide you with a high quality service and are happy to assist with any questions you may have.


Update 13/05/2021

We are delighted to announce the return of our indoor Fitness Classes.

From Monday 17th May, indoor Fitness Classes will return to QMU Sports. The timetable will see a return of some of our favourite classes such as Spin, HIIT Fit and Legs, Bums & Tums to name a few. To see the timetable, please visit our Fitness Classes webpage

The majority of the classes will take place in the Sports Hall to allow us to comply with social distancing guidelines set out by the Scottish Government.

Please book your fitness class, exercise pod, gym or Weights Room session in advance using our online booking system.

  • Outdoor fitness classes - HIIT, Tabata & Circuits
  • Outdoor all-weather pitch

Facilities that are closed until further notice:

  • Sports hall - 4 badminton court sized
  • Indoor fitness classes - we anticipate that classes will return on the 17th May 2021
  • Teen gym

What we are doing to keep you safe

In order to make the Centre as safe as possible, it has been necessary for us to make some changes to our facilities and how they operate. Our selection of changes have been guided by industry and Government experts, including, UK Active, the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland. The changes also enable us to continue to comply with local government advice and guidelines in regards to personal hygiene and social distancing.

Safety measures that we have put in place are:

  • We are cleaning and disinfecting our facilities with an enhanced cleaning process, using detergent and disinfectant to sanitize all gym equipment.
  • We have protective screens at our reception desk and have provided the Sports team with PPE.
  • We will regularly have a member of staff stationed in the Fitness Suite to help you with the new guidance and to answer any questions that you may have.
  • We supply disinfectant spray and disposable hand towels so that members can clean the equipment before and after use.
  • There are hand sanitizing stations available throughout the Centre.
  • Selected equipment has been switched off, removed or taken out of use to maintain distancing and hygiene guidelines.

What you can do to help us:

Before you arrive:

  • If you feel sick or experience COVID-19 symptoms, please don’t come to the Centre.
  • You’ll need to book your session in advance. You can do this online or by calling or emailing the sports reception. If you can’t make your slot, please remember to cancel so others can benefit.
  • Please arrive no earlier than your allocated booking slot and no later than 30 minutes before the end of your slot. 
  • Please report to the Sports Reception on arrival to sign in for your session.
  • If attending an outdoor fitness class, please report to the all weather pitch and register your attendance with the class instructor.
  • Arrive dressed and ready to workout.
  • We won’t have as many lockers available as usual, so please only bring essential belongings. 

While you are in the Centre:

  • Please wear a face covering when entering the Centre and when moving through the corridors.  You don’t need to wear a face covering whilst exercising.
  • Please keep to the left in corridors and on the stairs.
  • Use our hand sanitizing stations when you enter a new area (and again when you leave)
  • Use our disinfectant spray and hand towels to clean your equipment and mats before and after you use them.  There’ll be specific bins for waste.
  • Don’t use equipment that is marked as out of use or share equipment with others. 
  • Don’t move weights or benches to other parts of the Centre.

When leaving the Centre:

  • Please leave the area prior to or promptly at the end of your allocated slot.
  • Please remember to take all personal belongings away with you.
  • Changing rooms and showers will be available, however, to minimise numbers using these facilities, where possible, please avoid using the changing rooms and wait until you return home to shower and change.

Sports Centre Members - membership update 20/04/2021

All memberships will be unfrozen when we reopen. We collected a payment at the end of December 2020 that will cover you until the end of May.  The routine payment via direct debit will recommence on the 28th May 2021.

However, if you don’t feel ready to return just yet or travel restrictions are preventing you doing so, we are more than happy to continue to freeze your membership until you are able to return.  Please email sportsreception@qmu.ac.uk to freeze your membership further.

Pre-paid and expired pre-paid memberships will be extended to reflect the length of the closure period since lockdown was announced on 26th December 2020.
