Concordats and Sector Good Practice

QMU is committed to complying with sector Concordats and contemporary standards of good practice that promote quality and integrity in research and KE.

In October 2019 our Principal publicly declared our commitment to the new Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, our enthusiasm and support reflected in our position as one of the first 10 UK institutions to sign up. In September 2010 we were also one of the first universities in the UK and Europe to be awarded the HR Excellence in Research Award. Underpinning our work in this area has been our participation, as 1 of only 22 UK HEIs, in the first national Culture, Employment and Development in Academic Research Survey (CEDARS). We were pleased to report a 31% response to CEDARS 2020 and are working with our research staff to use the feedback to enhance excellence in our research culture and environment.

Fundamental to all of our work is supporting our researchers in maintaining the highest possible professional standards of research integrity to underpin the University’s commitment to the NHS Framework for Research Governance; and the proactive implementation of the Concordat to Support Research Integrity.

We are also signatories to the Concordat for Engaging the Public with Research and the Manifesto for Public Engagement which sets the expectations and responsibilities of research funders with respect to public engagement, to help embed public engagement in universities and research institutes. This aims to enhance the future of research and benefit the UK society and economy.
