Applications are now open for SHIFT Summer School
Three of Scotland’s leading arts institutions have come together to help students and recent graduates SHIFT from higher education to their professional careers.
Queen Margaret University, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and Glasgow School of Art are delighted to announce a new partnership, SHIFT.
We are particularly pleased to announce this collaboration as part of CAN DO Scotland. The vision of CAN DO is for Scotland to become a world-leading entrepreneurial and innovative nation, leading to wider benefits for all. The Creative Industries will be a key factor in achieving sustainable economic growth to allow Scotland to flourish. SHIFT recognizes higher education’s important role in creating a supportive creative environment for entrepreneurship and innovation, especially among our students and graduates.
Recognizing the importance of collaborating across institutions and disciplines, the new partnership, will result in specialist events and resources for budding creative entrepreneurs, freelancers, artists, designers, producers and performers. The landmark programme of the partnership will be SHIFT Summer School.
The SHIFT summer school will be delivered with industry partners including the BBC and Cultural Enterprise Office. Open to 60 students and recent graduates from all three institutions, it will be an intensive, week-long series of interactive workshops, small break out conversations, creative activities and one-to-one clinics.
Working with peer groups from across a range of disciplines and with different skills, these activities are designed to equip students and graduates with the collaborative, practical, creative and entrepreneurial skills that will support them in making the transitional shift from being a student to becoming an independent professional practitioner in the cultural and creative industries.
Taking place from 9-13 September, just before term-time begins, participating students and recent graduates will leave SHIFT with new ideas, and an action plan for the next steps in their professional lives.
