Placement Wellbeing Support
Our health science students participating in healthcare placements have shared insights and experiences which have the potential to have an impact on their mental health and wellbeing.
As you prepare for placement it can help to consider how you might nurture your mental health and wellbeing during placements, including coping with challenges which may arise as part of the placement experience.
Louise Gill, Wellbeing Adviser and Jenna Rhodes, Physiotherapy Lecturer/PL, worked with a cohort of physiotherapy students to develop and create the Placement Wellbeing Toolkit (PWT).
- The PWT is an interactive toolkit designed to support our students preparing for placement exploring ways they might care for their mental health and wellbeing during placements as well as respond to challenges which may arise.
- The PWT explores various topics related to placements which have the potential to impact on a student's wellbeing. The PWT introduces tools, proactive coping strategies and resources to support a students' wellbeing throughout their placement.
Feedback from QMU healthcare students who used the Placement Wellbeing Toolkit:
The toolkit encouraged me to think about my wellbeing and coping strategies far deeper than I would have without it. It was very helpful to talk through the toolkit within a small group to allow me to think about things I wouldn't have thought of.
I think the toolkit is a great thing to complete prior to placement, it helped me to feel prepared. It was great to remind yourself how to look after your wellbeing.
Throughout the toolkit it highlighted great key strategies which I will definitely take with me into future practice.
I found it to be really helpful creating my own wellbeing toolkit, wellbeing schedule and the support links/signposting really useful.
The Placement Wellbeing Toolkit is available for all our students to access. It has been designed for our Healthcare students engaging with their course placements.
