6-Week Compassionate Mind Training Course

Do you ever feel that you are your own worst critic? Do you sometimes find it hard to regulate your emotions?

If so, this popular 6-week course might be helpful for you.

This programme is designed to increase self-compassion and self-esteem while lowering self-criticism and perfectionism.

Next dates: February 2026. Dates and times TBC

What’s it about?

  • We will learn more about our ‘tricky brains’ and how difficult it can be to be human.
  • We will learn more about self-criticism and how to balance strong negative emotions (e.g. anger, anxiety, sadness or shame).
  • We will learn to develop and practice a compassionate mind with the intention of being helpful, not harmful, towards ourselves and others.

What’s involved?

  • Each session will involve a mixture of taught content and experiential exercises and practices, e.g. mindfulness, imagery exercises, letter-writing and some other written exercises.
  • The sessions will be in person on campus.
  • It is important that you aim to attend all sessions.

Compassion?

Don’t worry - this isn’t touchy-feely nonsense! Our definition of ‘compassion’ is wise, kind, courageous, strong and pretty helpful.

Advice from past participants:

"I think it’s really helpful to do this course, it may feel like a lot to add on, but think of it as working on you for your future self. Your future self will thank you and appreciate it."

"Go with an open mind. There will be something that resonates and works for you, and the sessions are really soothing and relaxing in themselves - a nice little weekly escape."

“…stick with the whole thing and feel free to get involved with discussion - it really improves the experience.”

"Go to every class and read the notes afterwards to get the most out of the course.”

“I would recommend at least trying it, I found within the group that we managed all to find something in the course that helps.  Even if it’s just going to interact with people who feel the same.”
