Coronavirus updates – LRC 11th January 2021

Because of the move of all areas of mainland Scotland into Tier 4 of the pandemic response regulations, we have had to make some changes to how the spaces within the LRC are used and how our service will operate.

The Learning Resource Centre

The Learning Resource Centre continues to be open to QMU staff and students from 8am to 9pm Monday-Sunday with study spaces accessible during these periods.

However, it is necessary for us to make some adjustments, which are set out as follows:

  • Masks - must now be worn at all times in the LRC, including when seated at a study space.
  • Book Stock - access to the book stock is no longer possible but a Click and Collect” book service for essential book requests is in place. More details about this and the form to request books are available at https://www.qmu.ac.uk/study-here/learning-facilities/library/click-and-collect/
  • Individual Study Spaces - within the LRC are now bookable for periods of up to 3 hours via the Room Booking As in semester one only study spaces with seats should be used and students are encouraged not to spread materials across the unused study space.
  • For Post Grad Study - rooms 1123a and quiet study room 1123b remain in operation.
  • Group study - the small group study spaces are no longer accessible and are closed off.

Helpdesk

The Helpdesk is available remotely between the hours of 8am and 7pm Monday to Friday and 11-4pm at the weekend via (LRCHelp@qmu.ac.uk / Assist@qmu.ac.uk).  In addition, Helpdesk staff will be present on campus 10am to 2pm weekdays and 1-3pm at the weekend.

Any queries about any of the changes to the use of the LRC should be directed to the LRCHelp email at LRCHelp@qmu.ac.uk.in the first instance.

Atrium

The atrium tiers and 1875 are not part of the LRC. They have been designated as a workplace canteen under the COVID regulations and so can be used by students and staff so long as they observe 2m social distancing. However, face coverings require to be worn and should only be removed when eating and drinking in this area.  Access to the Atrium is available 24/7

The University is continuing to monitor closely and follow healthcare and government advice from Health Protection Scotland.

We also have a dedicated coronavirus page on the main QMU website with FAQs which are continually being updated
