Information for Parents and Supporters

We know that parents and supporters have many hopes and concerns when their young people are making choices about university.

To help you support your young person, we have included some relevant information and links to useful information sources.

Students coming to university from school or college apply through UCAS. The How to Apply section of our website takes you through the process step by step, with tips, for example, on writing the personal statement that forms part of the application. UCAS also has a useful guide for parents and supporters

Our website is designed to help prospective students find out if QMU is for them. Particularly useful sections are our Student Stories, Campus Life, Why QMU, and Ask a Student pages. Each individual course page features a wealth of information too. You can find lots of student stories and other content on our YouTube channel too.

Most importantly, do encourage your young person to take advantage of open days, and also the offer-holder days to which they are invited. Parents and supporters are warmly invited to such events too.

The Student Awards Agency Scotland provides information for parents on student funding at Parents and carers - SAAS. You can also find information on our website at Fees and Funding including information for students joining us from the rest of the UK outside Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, and across the world.

At QMU, we are determined to enable every student to grow, thrive and become their best selves. Our Student Services are set up to do just that, ranging from wellbeing to placement support, and from peer assisted learning to our careers service. We offer specialised support services for particular groups including care experienced students and armed forces veterans. And our Effective Learning Service has helped countless students develop the study skills they need to fulfil their potential at university.

The Student Awards Agency Scotland provides a handy budget calculator. We provide information on support for managing the cost of living on our website too.

We aim to identify each applicant’s full talent and potential and look beyond grades to do this. When considering applications, we aim to take into account the context of an applicant’s academic achievement, giving consideration to a range of factors which may impact on attainment. We do this via our contextual admissions policy. You can find out more on our application and access website

Yes! We offer a wide range of routes from college and for mature students. Find out more on our College Leavers and Mature Students and Access to Higher Education web section
