Isla Davies is a Lecturer in Speech & Language Therapy in the Speech and Hearing Sciences Division at Queen Margaret University.
- Overview
I have been a practising speech & language therapist for 24 years and my role at QMU is focused on placement development, practice-based learning. I would describe myself as a ‘Pracademic’ which I feel accurately encapsulates my sense of professional identity, recognising the value of my practical experience in my academic role.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in active learning and social constructivism. I believe it is essential to create a positive and co-operative classroom environment, where students trust each other as well as their teacher. I aim to facilitate students to see each other as resources & colleagues, not competitors creating a safe learning environment where all contributions are welcome. I value playfulness as an important aspect of any learning environment and believe that smiling as you learn results in positive feelings about learning.
