Since qualifying as an Art Therapist in 1997, I have worked in a variety of contexts with a broad range of people in both third sector organisations and the NHS. My clinical areas of practice have included adult mental health, people with learning disabilities, perinatal mental health, trauma and clinical supervision.
I am an experienced group and workshop facilitator. I have contributed to the Art Psychotherapy programme at QMU as a visiting lecturer since 2010, and I joined the team as lecturer in Art Psychotherapy in 2022.
I continue to work as an Art Psychotherapist in perinatal mental health and private practice and I am an active member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) Scotland Council, and held the role of Chair for BAAT Scotland from 2022 to 2025.
I am particularly interested in how imagination, metaphor and the ineffable aspects of the image in Art Therapy create opportunities to connect more deeply. My own art making is essential to my personal and professional life alongside my interest in research and writing.
Affiliations (including memberships) to other organisations:
Member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT)
Health Professions Council (HPC) Registered Practitioner
Through my work with Crossreach Perinatal service, I have developed a primary research interest in Perinatal Art Therapy and related areas such as childbirth trauma and perinatal distress viewed through a psychodynamic and intersectional feminist lens.
I teach across modules on the MSc Art Psychotherapy as a lecturer, clinical supervisor and dissertation supervisor. I co-coordinate the Art Psychotherapy Theory and Practice module in level one.
