QMU Online
You have joined a worldwide community of learners and our aim at QMU is for you to fulfil your goals and maximise your potential. For that to happen, our expectation of you is that you will engage with us and work hard, and your expectation of us is that we are there for you in all aspects of your learning.
The purpose of this page is therefore to welcome you to your studies and to provide you with information that you will find of use throughout your time at QMU.
As a QMU Online student, QMU’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) ‘Canvas’ is the portal to your online educational experience. In addition to the teaching materials, each week the Module Facilitator will guide your weekly learning experience including discussion forums, quizzes and formative tests.
Furthermore, further learning resources including videos, podcasts, academic texts and books are made available using TALIS and these resources are embedded within the main teaching resource.
Access to TALIS and Canvas is granted upon matriculation.
QMU Online is a series of 15 credit modules (150 hours of learning) that is delivered asynchronously. Each module has a Facilitator to guide your student experience which will include written texts, videos, podcasts, academic articles and books; all of which is delivered in a timeframe that is appropriate to each individual learner.
Assessments within QMU Online are based around the principles of authentic assessment so that you, as the learner, will develop both practical skills and a sound theoretical academic underpinning.
Post-matriculation you will be required to complete the Onboarding QMU Online short course to ensure that you are fully prepared for your QMU Online journey. A useful guide to Online Learning is also available through our library platform.

Education in Scotland is designed to reflect the degree of complexity and depth of learning. Each level is mapped to the SCQF Framework, and Masters students learn and are assessed at Level 11. It is important that you as a Masters student understand what this means and how this will impact your studies.
Throughout your time at QMU Online, you will be accessing specialist materials written by QMU academics who are subject experts in their respective fields. The modules themselves are facilitated by specialist online academics who will guide and lead you through your QMU Online journey.
QMU Online contextualises learning using a variety of contemporary examples to allow you to apply the academic principles to practical situations.
The Module Facilitation team includes Dr Dorothy Powell and Dr Enis Elezi. They are there to guide you through the various stages of your course in partnership with the Module Coordinator for each of your online modules.
One of the things you may want to consider is what you plan to do with your degree, and that means thinking about your career. It’s never too early to build your CV, get good careers advice, and to plan for the moment you get your first post-graduation job.
The QMU Careers and Employability Service is a campus-based resource that is available to you both during your studies and after you have graduated.
