Narmin Mammadova is an Assistant Lecturer in Management in the Queen Margaret Business School.

Narmin has a professional background in project and programme management, strategy and organisational change. Earlier in her career, she worked across the public and third sectors in Azerbaijan, including roles at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and programmes linked to the Ministry of Education. Her work involved managing complex projects, coordinating stakeholders and working across organisations with different priorities and structures.
After moving to the UK, Narmin worked as a Strategic Projects Manager at the University of Edinburgh. She managed a range of strategic projects and organisational change initiatives, working with academic and professional services teams across the University. Her work focused on improving processes, ways of working and the delivery of projects within a large higher education environment.
Alongside her professional career, Narmin has taught in higher education in both Azerbaijan and the UK. She has taught at Azerbaijan State University of Economics, the University of Edinburgh and Queen Margaret University. Her teaching has included project management, strategy and other management-related subjects.
Narmin’s main academic interest is project management. She is particularly interested in how projects are planned and delivered in practice, and in the role of stakeholder management, organisational context, decision-making and change in project outcomes. She also has an interest in strategy and in how organisations manage change and respond to different internal and external environments.
Her teaching draws on her professional experience, with an emphasis on practical examples and real organisational situations. She aims to help students connect project management and management theory with the challenges organisations and project teams face in practice.
Narmin holds a BBA from the joint programme between Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and Georgia State University, and an MSc in Management from the University of Leicester.
Narmin’s main teaching area is project management, with a particular focus on how projects are planned, organised and delivered in practice. Her teaching covers areas including project planning, stakeholder management, risk, governance, team working, decision-making and organisational change.
She also contributes to teaching in strategy, marketing, business and entrepreneurship, helping students understand how projects and management decisions sit within the wider aims and priorities of an organisation.
Narmin’s teaching is strongly informed by her professional experience in project and programme management. She uses practical examples, case studies and real organisational situations to help students connect theory with practice and understand how management decisions are made in different contexts.
She also has experience in curriculum and online learning design and has authored three QMU Online modules: Contemporary Issues in Project Management, Managing Project Risk and Uncertainty and Approaches to Project Management. This work involved developing learning content, activities and assessments for online students.
Narmin is particularly interested in applied learning and in creating opportunities for students to discuss and work through realistic management challenges. Her teaching reflects her experience of working across different sectors and countries, and she encourages students to consider how organisational culture, stakeholder expectations and wider contexts shape the way projects and organisations are managed.
