Academic awarded research grant for Scotland–South Africa collaboration
A researcher from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh has secured a highly competitive research award from the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) to develop an international partnership exploring how nature-based solutions can support healthier communities and effective climate governance in both the Global North and South.
Dr Admire Nyamwanza, Lecturer in Health Systems and Climate Change in QMU's Institute for Global Health and Development, has been awarded an RSE Research Collaboration Grant for his project, ‘Bridging the Implementation Gap: A Scotland–South Africa Partnership for Health-Centred Governance of Nature-Based Solutions.’ The project will be implemented in collaboration with Dr Katelyn Johnson of Stellenbosch University (South Africa).
The grant will support collaboration between researchers and partners in Scotland and South Africa to advance understanding of how nature-based solutions can deliver better health and environmental outcomes. The RSE's Research Collaboration Grants are designed to foster new research partnerships and interdisciplinary collaboration to address important societal challenges.
Dr Nyamwanza's research will strengthen links between universities and researchers in Scotland and South Africa while addressing global challenges at the intersection of health, climate governance and environmental sustainability. The project aligns with growing international efforts to harness nature-based solutions to improve public health, enhance climate resilience and support sustainable development.
The award forms part of the Royal Society of Edinburgh's latest round of research funding, which is helping strengthen Scotland's research base by supporting innovative projects and collaborations.
