QMU invites local community to summer Community Forum

By Press Office

QMU is inviting local residents, community groups and anyone with an interest in the work of the University to attend its next QMU Community Forum on Tuesday 30 June 2026.

Held twice a year, the Community Forum offers an open and welcoming space for dialogue between the University and the people it serves. Members of the public are encouraged to come along, hear about QMU’s current research and teaching initiatives, projects that may impact the local community, and opportunities for community wealth building.

At the June meeting, Thomas Peschken-Holt, Head of the Queen Margaret Business School, will speak about the QMU Means Business Initiative - a programme that has been empowering young innovators across East Lothian’s secondary schools.

Through QMU Means Business, University staff and students have been working directly with school pupils in Musselburgh and Dunbar to introduce practical tools widely used in business creativity and innovation. The initiative has brought the principles of Community Wealth Building into classrooms, equipping young people with the skills and confidence to develop ideas that can make a real difference in their local areas.

The programme culminated in a showcase event where pupils presented their projects - real-world solutions created to address local needs and challenges. Peschken-Holt will discuss the impact of the initiative so far and outline future ambitions for strengthening QMU’s support for young people in the region.

The Community Forum will also include regular updates from the University, space for questions, and a discussion of any new items proposed by attendees.

The event will take place in person at Queen Margaret University on Tuesday 30 June 2026, 6:30pm–7:45pm. Book you free place by emailing: marketing@qmu.ac.uk.
