QMU students present Film Showcase 2025
Join Queen Margaret University’s 4th year Film and Media students for a night of bold storytelling and cinematic magic at the Film Showcase 2025 on 7th July.
The annual event provides a platform for the graduating cohort to exhibit their creative work to their fellow students, staff, friends and family on the night before they officially graduate from QMU. This year, films will be screened at Cineworld, Edinburgh.
Guests will enjoy a dynamic programme of short films spanning drama, horror, documentary, comedy and experimental genres – all written, directed, and produced by QMU’s emerging talent.

There’s nothing quite like seeing your work come to life on the big screen - watching an audience react just as you imagined when the idea first sparked. It’s a powerful moment for any filmmaker. This showcase is not only a celebration of creativity and collaboration, but also a meaningful way for our students to mark the end of their journey at QMU – unveiling the stories they’ve poured their hearts into over the past year.
A presentation of awards will follow the conclusion of screenings, with audiences casting votes for their favourite films.
The Bruce Thompson memorial fund prizes – in memory of Bruce Thomson, a lecturer at QMU for many years, who sadly died in 2001 – will also be presented at the end of the show. Bruce was passionate in his support of students, especially those from a non-traditional educational background. He also had a great love of the visual arts. The two prizes from his memorial fund reflect these areas.
With a mix of heart, humour, and originality, the QMU Film Showcase promises an unforgettable evening of fresh voices and creative vision, so grab your popcorn and help celebrate the next generation of storytellers.
QMU’s Film Showcase 2025 will take place on Monday 7 July from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at Cineworld, Edinburgh (130/3 Dundee Street, EH11 1AF).
