QMU brings a Scottish twist to ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
Talented students from Queen Margaret University (QMU) will be adding a Scottish twist to one of Shakespeare’s most loved plays.
Theatre in the Garden, a drama company made up of both students and staff from QMU, returns with a rambunctious retelling of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
Marking the end of the academic year and the start of the summer, the show is a vibrant, queer take on this well-loved classic. Performed by undergraduate students from the drama and performance courses, and play is directed and designed by award winning staff team Kate Nelson and Sarah Paulley, with input from colleagues Stephanie Arsoska - movement and intimacy direction, and Polly Lister on costume consultation.
Kate Nelson, said: "Our QMU ‘Midsummer Night's Dream’ asks audiences to celebrate who we are, rather than who the world tells us we should be. Our show doesn't just showcase the incredible talent of our student company, it's also an uproarious celebration of their wit, originality, tolerance and diversity."
The play, which brings together staff and students from across the specialisms of drama and performance, costume design and construction, and film and media, will be performed at Summerhall on Thursday 29th, Friday 30th and Saturday 31st May at 7.30pm. There will also be a 2pm matinee show on the Saturday.
‘Theatre In The Garden’ is a company of emerging, young Scottish talent supported by Queen Margaret University, Division of Media, Communication Performing Arts.
