Green Gown award recognition for QMU's Outdoor Learning Hub

The Green Gown Awards, which celebrate sustainability excellence in higher and further education, acknowledged QMU’s Outdoor Learning Hub and Discovery Trail for its outstanding contribution to community engagement, environmental education, and social impact.

Developed in collaboration with local and community partners, educators, and environmental experts, QMU’s Outdoor Learning Hub and Discovery Trail offers an inspiring and inclusive space for learning, wellbeing, and environmental sustainability. It serves as a living classroom for students, schools, and community groups, promoting outdoor education and fostering a deeper connection with nature. In the short time since it was launched in 2024, it has helped enriched students’ experience, and contributed to national concerns in education, sustainability, health and wellbeing.

The initiative has already welcomed hundreds of visitors and continues to develop as a beacon of environmental stewardship and social benefit. The trail is designed to inspire curiosity, support mental wellbeing, and encourage a love and understanding of the natural world.

This commendation reinforces QMU’s position as a leader in socially responsible education and sustainability. The University looks forward to expanding the initiative’s reach and impact on outdoor learning through its teaching and community engagement with local schools and the wider teaching profession across the UK.
