Graduate wins top prize for dissertation
Carlin Bowman Kerbage, a Media and Communications graduate of Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh has been crowned the UK's regional winner of The Global Undergraduate Awards in the Mass Communication category for his outstanding dissertation exploring the use of AI.
The Global Undergraduate Awards is the world’s leading undergraduate awards programme, recognising outstanding academic work, connecting students across disciplines and cultures, and showcasing research on a global stage.
Carlin’s dissertation, titled “Deception Decoder: Proposing a Human-Focused Framework for Identifying AI-Generated Content on Social Media”, was praised by his academic supervisor at QMU as ‘outstanding,’ recognising that his research was worthy of wider recognition.
Carlin’s research addresses one of the most pressing issues in today’s digital landscape. His dissertation offers innovative insights into how people can better detect and understand AI-generated content, a subject that continues to grow in significance worldwide.
This remarkable achievement not only highlights Carlin’s academic excellence but also reflects the strength of QMU’s Media and Communications Division in preparing students to tackle contemporary global challenges.
