Your Safety

We will ensure that the Bike is in a safe and in road-worthy condition when we provide it to You.

However, it is important that you ensure the Bike is safe and roadworthy each time before You use it. It is strongly recommended that you carry out “M” checks regularly and ideally before every ride.

Additionally, You agree to maintain the Bike (including brake pads, tyres and inner tubes) at your own cost. We will provide advice, and support should you request it.

You accept that cycling on a public road carries its own risks and you have hired the Bike on this basis. You also agree to comply with all relevant road safety rules when using the Bike.

We strongly recommend you consider cycle safety training prior to riding the Bike on public roads and wear a helmet when riding.

QMU offers a free Dr Bike service on the last Tuesday of every month between 8:30am-10:30am beside the bike racks in University Square. The mechanic will spend up to 15 minutes per cycle to repair minor problems on the spot. More major problems can be diagnosed, and a bike "MOT" provided. During your bike hire, you agree to attend at least one of these free Dr Bike sessions per semester.

Further information on cycling and safety can be found on our Cycle Connections page.

Existing damage and damage during loan

On the day you collect the bike, You will inspect any existing damage with Cycle Connections staff at time of hire and you will both agree on pre-existing damage, You will then be allowed to try out the bike and cycle in the nearby vicinity to ensure You are happy with the bike being loaned to You.  From the time You accept the bike You have 24 hours to get in touch to report any other existing damage or issue.

By agreeing to our Terms, You agree that the Bike has been provided to You in a good and roadworthy condition. Additionally, You agree to be financially responsible for any repairs or damages incurred while the Bike is loaned to you. Upon return, the Bike will be assessed against its condition at the time of lending. We will contact you if repairs beyond normal wear and tear are necessary.
