IT Opportunities @ QMU
QMU's IT department is currently seeking candidates for three key roles to play a part in the continuing success of the team and the University.
The roles we are looking to fill are:
Software Developer
Web Developer
DBA
We are a relatively small team with big impact and get involved across all areas of the University. Our customers are demanding and push us to be ever more creative in the way we provide our services. Students, staff, external partners, all look to us to be innovative and delivery oriented.
As a member of a highly creative group, you will be given the opportunity to work with the latest toolset and see projects through from inception to delivery. Often working off a completely blank sheet to provide solutions to business problems.
The management style is very much one of empowerment, allowing colleagues to recommend and advise new ways of delivering, while focussing on the end customer at all times. If it’s a good idea, we’ll want to hear about it.
If this sounds like your kind of role and you want to work in an environment where you can make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.
There's lots of detail below but if you want to know more, feel free to contact us directly.

We aim to shape a better world through education, research and innovation. In doing so, we enable individuals and communities to flourish.
Our person-centred approach to learning makes us stand out from other universities, along with our focus on making society better. Our academic offering also distinguishes us.
Outward looking, we have a strong ethos of partnership and collaboration. At our modern campus, we benefit from easy access to the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland’s vibrant and historic capital city.
We are pioneers in inclusiveness and we embrace people from all backgrounds.
We see our purpose as helping to create a better society through education, research and innovation, and by providing a supportive and creative learning environment in which students and staff can thrive.
In seeking to fulfil this purpose, we are clear and realistic about our strengths, focused on strategic goals, persistent in pursuing opportunities and overcoming barriers, and guided by our values
We are a university that is modern in our outlook and facilities but with a maturity built on a long history of serving the community, both locally and globally, and enhancing its wellbeing. We work in a transparent and inclusive manner and hold to core values in everything we do.
We value social justice: In fact, it underpins our world view. We embrace equality, diversity, inclusion, respect, and supporting our communities. Opportunities and access are open to all and on a fair basis.
We value environmental sustainability: We recognise the severe threats to our environment and will be a sector leader in response. Our modern campus is a great asset in this work.
We value the individual and encourage collective support: Each member of staff and each student has their own journey to make and their own contribution to give. Queen Margaret University provides the supportive environment to facilitate this.
We value intellectual curiosity and the journey of discovery: We design our teaching and research to facilitate this.
We value ambition: We inspire our students and staff to achieve the best that they can. We pursue opportunities, often in partnership and collaboration with others, to transform and influence society for the better and enhance our visibility within the higher education sector and the wider economy.
We value excellence: This is embedded in our research, teaching and learning, knowledge exchange and the services we provide. It will be exemplified in the experience of our students, staff and partners.
Your contractual place of work will be our QMU Campus in Musselburgh. Following consultation with key stakeholders including staff, the University has developed an approach to hybrid working.
At QMU we define hybrid working as an informal and variable working arrangement where, within agreed parameters, a member of staff works some of their time at home, or at another agreed remote location, and some of their time on campus.
Aspects of these roles focus on supporting and enhancing the student experience, parts of this are best done on campus.
There is however scope for an element of remote working, finding a balance that works for the University and for you with most colleagues enjoying a mix of home and campus working if they wish to.
Patterns of hybrid work may vary according to the demands of the academic cycle.
