Full Time (FT) Fees - refer to table below

Fees for EU students who commenced their studies in 2020/21 or earlier will remain at £1820 (full time) and £620 per 20 credits (part time).

Scottish part time fees will be charged at £620 per 20 credits.

Part time fees for students from outside Scotland are pro rata to the full time fee.

*BA (Hons) Business Management (Graduate Apprenticeship)

Continuing students should still apply to Skills Development Scotland for tuition fee sponsorship. New eligible students should apply to Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).

**Hearing Aid Audiology

Please note that this course does not attract tuition fee funding from the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS). There are also additional exam fees.

Fees are based on courses with an international fee rate of £7000 per annum. Other courses will be charged at a higher fee rate. 

+Full Time RUK and Republic of Ireland Students

Students who commenced on an Honours programme before 2019/20 and who are liable to pay the full time RUK fee will be charged at a rate of £7000 per annum. Full time RUK students commencing from 2019/20 on an Honours programme, will be required to pay fees for the first 3 years of study (£9250 per annum). No fee will be charged in Year 4. Direct Entry RUK students commencing from 2019/20 will also be required to pay the £9250 fee over a maximum of 3 years.

The Scottish Government has confirmed that undergraduate students from the Republic of Ireland who commencing their studies in 2023/24 will have the same fee status as students from the rest of the UK, excluding Scotland. This means that full time students from the Republic of Ireland commencing in 2023/24 on an honours programme will be required to pay fees for the first three years of study (£9250 per annum). No fee will be charged in year four. A tuition fee loan of up to this amount will be available from the Students Awards Agency Scotland for Republic of Ireland students.

++Continuing Full Time International Students

• Students who commenced study on one of the courses charged at £7000 in 2021/22 will continue to be charged a fee of £7,000 per annum for the remainder of their studies.
• Continuing students who were charged a fee of £13,500 in 2021/22 will remain on that fee for the remainder of their studies.
• Students who commenced study on a non-AHP lab based course in 2019/0 or earlier and who were charged a fee of £14,880 in 2021/22 will remain on that fee for the remainder of their studies.
• Students who commenced study on an Allied Health Profession course in 2019/20 or earlier and were charged a fee of £14,800 in 2022/23 will be charged a fee of £15,500 in 2023/24.

RUK and International students commencing on one of the above AHP courses marked # will also be liable for additional fees for pre-placement costs including name badges, uniforms and health clearance checks:

BA(Hons) Education Studies Primary and BA(Hons) Performance require to pay the fee of £18 or £59 (depending on level of clearance required) at point of application; students on other programmes may require to pay for clearance, depending on optional modules selected during their course of studies – please see programme web pages for further information.

PAYMENT OF FEES FOR SESSION 2023/24

The fee levels and other charges detailed here apply to all students who commence or resume their studies in Session 2023/24.

Fee levels quoted are correct at the time of publication. The University reserves the right to amend published fees.

Fee levels are reviewed on an annual basis, and are subject to increase.

PAYMENT OF FEES (DUE DATE)

Tuition fees become due on the first day of your programme of study. Arrangements for fee payments are detailed below.

International students who have paid a £5000 deposit will have this amount deducted from their overall fees.

21 DAY PERIOD

Within 21 days of the due date, all students must either pay their tuition fees in full, or have arranged with the Finance Office to pay by instalments. If you wish to pay in full, payments can be made via the student portal; via debit card or credit card or with cash. Payments may be made in person at the Finance Office or by sending in a cheque made payable to QMU. Please put your matriculation number on the back of the cheque and sent it to the Finance Office, QMU, Queen Margaret University Drive, Musselburgh, East Lothian, EH21 6UU. You can also pay over the phone by calling +44 (0)131 474 0000 and asking for 'Finance.'

CAS DEPOSIT

International students who have paid a minimum of £5000 tuition fee deposit will have this amount deducted from their overall fees.

PAYMENT BY INSTALMENTS

You may choose to pay tuition fees by instalments, rather than by a single payment either by Direct Debit or Recurring Card Payment (RCP). These instalments are over 8 months, October to May for September starts or January to August (for January 2024 starts only).

If you choose to pay by Direct Debit you will find the form on the Student Portal (you must have a UK Bank Account for this to operate). Alternatively, you can set-up an RCP on the Student Portal whereby instalments are taken from your debit/credit card over 8 months (October to May or January to August for January 2024 starts only). For all returning students, you must renew your Direct Debit or RCP each year. For new students you will only get access to the Student Portal after you have completed online matriculation. Please note that short courses/low fee courses may not be paid by instalments.

PAYMENT BY A SPONSOR

It is a condition of registration that students accept liability for their tuition fees. Remember that even if your fees are to be paid by a sponsor, such as an embassy or employer, it is your personal responsibility to ensure that they are paid and to provide evidence of funding when you matriculate. Where any student has failed to provide written confirmation of funding within 28 days of the start of their programme of study, she/he will be deemed to be personally liable for payment of the fees, and an invoice will be issued to the student accordingly. If your sponsor is a Health Board you must obtain a Purchase Order number from them so this can be quoted on an invoice.

DISCOUNT

Self funding students who have a net tuition fee amount payable of £12,500 or more are eligible for a 5% discount on the fee payable, provided they settle in full prior to 31 October or within 7 days from the date of invoice, whichever is the earlier. The discount will be calculated at 5% of the net fee payable (i.e. after any scholarship). The same will apply to students who start in January and have fees of over £12,500 less any scholarship award, and pay their fees, in full, prior to 28^th February or within 7 days from the date of invoice, whichever is earlier.

PART-TIME FEE GRANT

If you are over 16 and live in Scotland you may be eligible for a part-time fee grant which helps to cover the tuition fee cost of part-time study (but does not pay for all of it).

You must apply for the part-time fee grant no later than three months after the start date of your course.

PROFESSIONAL BODY REGISTRATION FEES

Students will be personally liable for payment of any professional body registration fees as detailed in the Registration & Membership fees sections.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The University is pleased to offer a number of competitive Scholarships for new International students undertaking their first year of study on UG or taught PG degrees. The scholarship is granted as a reduction of the tuition fee and is available to students who are self-funding. 

LATE PAYMENTS

Unless you have chosen to pay by instalments, if your tuition fee remains unpaid 21 days after it is due, you may become liable to pay interest at 2.5% above the UK clearing bank base rate per annum on the full amount. Interest will run from the due date until the outstanding fees are eventually paid.

If you have chosen to pay by instalments, interest on a late instalment will run from the due date to the date when the instalment is paid.

DIFFICULTIES IN MAKING A PAYMENT

If you are experiencing difficulty in paying all or part of your tuition fees, you must contact the Credit Controller as soon as possible. The Credit Controller will help you to draw up a payment schedule, to which you will be required to adhere until your fees are paid in full.

REQUIREMENT TO LEAVE THE UNIVERSITY

Unless you have agreed a payment schedule with the Credit Controller, if tuition fees are still outstanding 8 weeks after the end of the 21-day period or if an instalment is over 4 weeks late, you may be asked to leave the University. The University will put your debt into the hands of a debt collector.

REINSTATEMENT ON PAYMENT OF FULL TUITION FEES

On payment in full of outstanding tuition fees before the end of the academic year in question, the University may permit your reinstatement on your programme of study. However, if you are behind with your studies you may have to repeat parts of the programme, thereby incurring further fees.

PROGRESSION

You will not be permitted to progress to the next year of your course if you have any debts due to the University from previous years.

DEGREE CEREMONY

The University may refuse to allow you to attend a degree ceremony if tuition fees are outstanding.

APPEAL PROCESS

If you are unhappy about a decision concerning payment of your fees, including a requirement that you withdraw from the University, you may contact the Student Funding Adviser, and bring a complaint under the University's complaint procedure.

EARLY WITHDRAWAL

If you leave your programme of study early, you must ensure that you submit a withdrawal form via this link https://www.qmu.ac.uk/current-students/thinking-of-leaving/if-you-want-to-leave-qmu/. The date of withdrawal will be deemed to be the date that the Registry department receives written confirmation of withdrawal. You will be liable for all or part of the fee for the full academic year as follows:

If you leave within 28 days of the start of your programme of study, you will be liable for an administration fee of £250.

If you leave more than 28 days after the start of your programme of study, you will be liable for the appropriate proportion of the fee based on the semesters attended wholly or in part.

If you are making payment of fees by instalments and withdraw from your programme of study, you must still meet any shortfall between the full fee determined by the University and the total amount of the instalments already paid.

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP

If you are experiencing financial difficulties in paying tuition fees you should seek help at the earliest possible opportunity. The University will be sympathetic and assist where it can. However, in order to maintain the quality of teaching for everyone else, the University must act to recover debts. Initially you should approach Bill Stronach, the Student Funding Adviser within Student Services for a confidential discussion.
