2020/21 Undergraduate fees
Fees for our Undergraduate courses are set out below. The course fee is dependent on the course type and the category of student (i.e Home, RUK, EU or International).Where the term RUK (Rest of UK) is used in the sections below, this means England, Wales & Northern Ireland - including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
If you are a first degree student and ordinarily resident in Scotland, you may be eligible for your tuition fees to be paid by the Scottish Government by applying to the Student Awards Agency Scotland. More information can be found on the SAAS website.
On 19 April 2019, the Scottish Government announced that eligible EU students starting their studies in 2020 will have the costs of their tuition fees met by the Scottish Government for the duration of their course. Those who meet the residency requirement will continue to benefit from associated living cost support. You must apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for funding. For guidance on eligibility and funding please visit the SAAS website.
International students from outside the EU are responsible for ensuring that they have the funds to pay their tuition fees as well as their living costs support. They may be able to access funding or loans from their own government. For further information please read the information available on the international and scholarships sections of the website.

*Full Time EU Students

+Full Time RUK Students
Students who commenced on an Honours programme before 2019/20 and who are liable to pay the full time RUK fee will be charged at a rate of £7000 per annum. Full time RUK students commencing from 2019/20 on an Honours programme, will be required to pay fees for the first 3 years of study (£9250 per annum). No fee will be charged in Year 4. Direct Entry RUK students commencing from 2019/20 will also be required to pay the £9250 fee over a maximum of 3 years.
++Full Time International Students
Students who commenced studies before 2019/20 and who are liable to pay the full time International fee will be charged at a rate of £14,175 in 2020/21.
**Nursing Students
Rest of the UK (RUK) students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales commencing studies at QMU from 2017/18 onwards on the BSc (Hons) Nursing, should apply to their local funding body for a loan to cover their tuition fees. There will be no change for continuing students registered on BSc (Hons) Nursing who are currently funded by the Student Awards Agency for Scotland.
***Hearing Aid Audiology
Please note that this course does not attract tuition fee funding from the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) or Student Finance England, Wales or Northern Ireland.
There are also additional exam fees: Year 1 = £100 Year 2 = £200.
Students who commenced their studies in 2019/20 and are progressing into level 2 will pay the following full time fees:

#Allied Health Profession Students

There will be no change for continuing students registered on one of the above AHP courses who are currently funded by Student Awards Agency for Scotland.
#Pre-Placement Costs
Please note that for EU, RUK and International students commencing on the BSc (Hons) Nursing or one of the above AHP courses marked # from September 2018, will also be liable for additional fees for pre-placement costs. The 2020/1 total fee of £165.91 includes the cost of the name badge, uniform, health clearance check and PVG.
Registration and Membership
We recommend that students studying on the following courses also register with the appropriate Professional Body. Please note that the fees for the BSc (Hons) Podiatry are mandatory and payable to the University.

Payment of Fees
PAYMENT OF FEES FOR SESSION 2019/20
The fee levels and other charges detailed here apply to all students who commence or resume their studies in Session 2019/20.
Fee levels quoted are correct at the time of publication. The University reserves the right to amend published fees.
Fee levels are reviewed on an annual basis, and are subject to increase.

PAYMENT OF FEES (DUE DATE)
Tuition fees become due on the first day of your programme of study. Arrangements for fee payments are detailed below.
International students who have paid a £2000 deposit will have this amount deducted from their overall fees.
21 DAY PERIOD
Within 21 days of the due date, all students must either pay their tuition fees in full, or have arranged with the Finance Office to pay by instalments. If you wish to pay in full, payments can be made via the student portal; via debit card or credit card or with cash. Payments may be made in person at the Finance Office or by sending in a cheque made payable to QMU. Please put your matriculation number on the back of the cheque and sent it to the Finance Office, QMU, Queen Margaret University Drive, Musselburgh, East Lothian, EH21 6UU. You can also pay over the phone by calling +44 (0)131 474 0000 and asking for 'Finance.'
PAYMENT BY INSTALMENTS
You may choose to pay tuition fees by instalments, rather than by a single payment either by Direct Debit or Recurring Card Payment (RCP). These instalments are over 8 months, October to May for September starts or January to August (for January 2021 starts only).
If you choose to pay by Direct Debit you will find the form on the Student Portal (you must have a UK Bank Account for this to operate). Alternatively, you can set-up an RCP on the Student Portal whereby instalments are taken from your debit/credit card over 8 months (October to May or January to August for January 2021 starts only). For all returning students, you must renew your Direct Debit or RCP each year. For new students you will only get access to the Student Portal after you have completed online matriculation. Please note that short courses/low fee courses may not be paid by instalments.
PAYMENT BY A SPONSOR
It is a condition of registration that students accept liability for their tuition fees. Remember that even if your fees are to be paid by a sponsor, such as an embassy or employer, it is your personal responsibility to ensure that they are paid and to provide evidence of funding when you matriculate. Where any student has failed to provide written confirmation of funding within 28 days of the start of their programme of study, she/he will be deemed to be personally liable for payment of the fees, and an invoice will be issued to the student accordingly. If your sponsor is a Health Board you must obtain a Purchase Order number from them so this can be quoted on an invoice.
DISCOUNT
For all annual tuition fees of £9,000 and above, where the student is self-funding and the fee is settled in full by 31 October 2019, a discount of 5% will be authorised.
Graduates of the University who hold a verified QMU undergraduate or postgraduate award and who are admitted to a named postgraduate award of QMU from 2011/12 will be eligible for a 10% discount on the published fees.
PART-TIME FEE GRANT
If you are over 16 and live in Scotland you may be eligible for a part-time fee grant which helps to cover the tuition fee cost of part-time study (but does not pay for all of it).

You must apply for the part-time fee grant no later than three months after the start date of your course.
PROFESSIONAL BODY REGISTRATION FEES
Students will be personally liable for payment of any professional body registration fees as detailed in the Registration & Membership fees sections.
INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
The University is pleased to offer a number of competitive Scholarships for new International students undertaking their first year of study on UG or taught PG degrees. The scholarship is granted as a reduction of the tuition fee and is available to students who are self-funding. Find out more about scholarships for new students.
Payment Difficulties
LATE PAYMENTS
Unless you have chosen to pay by instalments, if your tuition fee remains unpaid 21 days after it is due, you may become liable to pay interest at 2.5% above the UK clearing bank base rate per annum on the full amount. Interest will run from the due date until the outstanding fees are eventually paid.
If you have chosen to pay by instalments, interest on a late instalment will run from the due date to the date when the instalment is paid.
DIFFICULTIES IN MAKING A PAYMENT
If you are experiencing difficulty in paying all or part of your tuition fees, you must contact the Credit Controller as soon as possible. The Credit Controller will help you to draw up a payment schedule, to which you will be required to adhere until your fees are paid in full.
REQUIREMENT TO LEAVE THE UNIVERSITY
Unless you have agreed a payment schedule with the Credit Controller, if tuition fees are still outstanding 8 weeks after the end of the 21-day period or if an instalment is over 4 weeks late, you may be asked to leave the University. The University will put your debt into the hands of a debt collector.
REINSTATEMENT ON PAYMENT OF FULL TUITION FEES
On payment in full of outstanding tuition fees before the end of the academic year in question, the University may permit your reinstatement on your programme of study. However, if you are behind with your studies you may have to repeat parts of the programme, thereby incurring further fees.
PROGRESSION
You will not be permitted to progress to the next year of your course if you have any debts due to the University from previous years.
DEGREE CEREMONY
The University may refuse to allow you to attend a degree ceremony if tuition fees are outstanding.
APPEAL PROCESS
If you are unhappy about a decision concerning payment of your fees, including a requirement that you withdraw from the University, you may contact the Student Funding Adviser, and bring a complaint under the University’s Student Complaint Procedure.
EARLY WITHDRAWAL
If you leave your programme of study early, you must ensure that you inform your Head of Subject and the Registry department. The date of withdrawal will be deemed to be the date that the Registry department receives written confirmation of withdrawal. You will be liable for all or part of the fee for the full academic year as follows:
If you leave within 28 days of the start of your programme of study, you will be liable for an administration fee of £250.
If you leave more than 28 days after the start of your programme of study, you will be liable for the appropriate proportion of the fee based on the semesters attended wholly or in part.
If you are making payment of fees by instalments and withdraw from your programme of study, you must still meet any shortfall between the full fee determined by the University and the total amount of the instalments already paid.
IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP
If you are experiencing financial difficulties in paying tuition fees you should seek help at the earliest possible opportunity. The University will be sympathetic and assist where it can. However, in order to maintain the quality of teaching for everyone else, the University must act to recover debts. Initially you should approach Bill Stronach, the Student Funding Adviser within Student Services for a confidential discussion. You may also wish to speak to a personal tutor or someone at the Students’ Union for advice and support.
