Scottish Highlands & Islands Schools Scholarship – Prospective students

Supporting students from across the Scottish Highlands & Islands to study at QMU

Queen Margaret University is delighted to introduce a new Scottish Highlands & Islands Schools Scholarship, created to support talented students from across the region as they begin their university journey.

If you currently attend a qualifying Scottish Highlands & Islands secondary school and you join QMU as a new full-time undergraduate student in September 2026, you will be eligible to receive a £500 scholarship. This award is designed to help with the costs of transitioning to university life.

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

  • You currently attend — or your most recent place of study was — a Scottish Highlands & Islands school listed in the scheme’s Terms & Conditions.

  • Have applied through UCAS to begin a full-time undergraduate degree at QMU, starting Year 1 in September 2026

  • Submit your UCAS application no later than 30 June 2026

  • Successfully matriculate as a QMU student in September 2026

How the scholarship works

Eligible students who matriculate in September 2026 will receive the scholarship payment of £500 in early October 2026.

There is no separate application form — if you meet the eligibility criteria, you will automatically be awarded the scholarship after matriculation.

Supporting your future

QMU is committed to widening access and supporting learners from all communities across Scotland, including the Scottish Highlands & Islands. We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly campus and helping you thrive academically, personally, and professionally.
