QMU Scotsman Festival Internship 2026 - FAQs

Who is this internship for?

Any current QMU student can apply — from any programme and any year of study. You do not need professional camera experience. If you can film and edit strong content using a smartphone, you’re eligible.

Do I need to be an expert filmmaker to apply?

Not necessarily. You should have:

· The ability to shoot and edit content (smartphone skills are completely acceptable)

· OR strong presenting/interviewing skills

· OR an interest in content creation, media, or storytelling

If you’ve ever made TikToks, Reels, YouTube videos, or digital content on your phone, you could be a great fit.

Do I need my own filming equipment?

No specialist equipment is required.

A smartphone with a good camera and basic editing tools is enough. That’s how The Scotsman works during the Fringe.

How many internships are available?

There will be 1–2 intern positions available.

How many days must I commit? Interns must commit to a minimum of 9 days between 7–31 August 2026 (you must commit to all Fridays) The other days are planned flexibly with you.

Is this internship paid?

The internship comes with a £500 bursary and free QMU accommodation is provided.

Will my work be published?

Possibly — many interns have had content shared on scotsman.com.

Can I apply if I’m more of a presenter/journalist than a filmmaker?

Yes — we welcome confident presenters/interviewers.

Can I apply if I was an intern before?

Yes — this opportunity is open to all QMU students, including previous interns.
