Found in the QMU archive, here is cine film showing Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, at the laying of the Clermiston campus foundation stone on 7 June 1968, along with associated events.
Alice (married to Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, the third son of King George V and Queen Mary) was patron of the institution from 1940 until her death in 2004.
During the Second World War Alice worked with the Red Cross and was head of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force., the female wing of the Royal Air Force. At its’ peak over 180,000 women were serving WAAFs.
On 20 September 2003, at the age of 101 years and 269 days, she was certified by Guinness World Records as the world's longest-lived royal of all time.
