QMU Twinned with University in Ukraine
In 2023, QMU established a twinning relationship with Poltava National Pedagogical University (PNPU) in central Ukraine, in a bid to help support the country during the devastation of the Russian invasion.
The move was part of the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative, supported by Universities UK International, which was a key part of the UK’s higher education sector’s response to the war in Ukraine.
Initially, QMU looked at ways it might support PNPU which would be immediately helpful, such as access to our digital library resources and the sharing of recorded teaching content for students, as well as access to academic development workshops and online conferences. The partnership also took account of potential opportunities to share research in global health and development and to facilitate joint student projects and academic exchanges for Ukrainian students.
With social justice at the heart of QMU’s work, our involvement in the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative allowed us to support the development of academic and student talent from one of Ukraine’s oldest and most cherished universities during one of the most challenging times in the country’s history.
