The China & Great Britain Educational Trust
The China & Great Britain Educational Trust offers grants of up to £3,000 for students who studied at a Higher Education Institute in China and are now in their third year of a PhD programme at a UK university.
The Great Britain and China Educational Trust is delivered by The Great Britain-China Centre, commonly referred to as the GBCC. The GBCC was first formed in 1974 as an executive non-departmental public body, in order to support and improve UK-China relations.
Today, the GBCC is run as a not-for-profit company and is limited by public guarantee. It receives funding for its activities, and scholarships, from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
Trustees of the GBCET meet twice yearly to discuss applications for financial assistance from:
- Chinese students in Great Britain
- British PhD students researching China
- British students studying Chinese Language in Higher Educational settings
The application deadline dates for the Spring 2023 funding cycle are listed at the top of this page. Additionally, the future Autumn 2023 funding cycle dates are as follows:
- Applications open: Friday 1st September 2023
- Applications close: Wednesday 18th October 2023
Although applications for grants can be made up to a maximum of £3,000, the most common amounts awarded range between £1,500 and £2,000.
Successful applicants will receive their grant directly from the GBCET.
Please note that trustees will not accept applications for research material funding. This includes books, software and lab equipment. Instead, funding is intended to support applicants with their tuition fees and living expenses.
