Welcome to the Omega Xi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International at Queen Margaret University Edinburgh, Division of Nursing

Omega Xi Chapter was formally recognised by Sigma Theta Tau International as the first Chapter in Scotland at the Chartering Ceremony that took place on the 18th October 2019.

Sigma Theta Tau International is a truly global community of nursing with over 135,000 active members in more than 90 countries.  There are around 530 Chapters in over 700 Higher Education Institutions across all five continents linking Nurses who are at the top of their professions in order to share, learn and develop their nursing practice.  To be a member of the Omega Xi Chapter presents significant opportunities and benefits to Nurse members and we look forward to welcoming you to the first-ever Sigma Chapter to be recognised in Scotland and only the third to be recognised in the UK

We are committed to the support of learning and professional development of our Under-graduate and Post-graduate nurses at Queen Margaret University.  This key part of our Division of Nursing strategy aligns closely with the mission and goals of Sigma Theta Tau International.  The formation of the Omega Xi Chapter together with our commitment to the philosophies and consistent delivery of Person-centred Practice in nursing, will we believe, improve and enhance nursing care in our communities.

We are committed to the support of learning and professional development of our Under-graduate and Post-graduate nurses at Queen Margaret University. This key part of our Division of Nursing strategy aligns closely with the mission and goals of the community of Sigma nurses.  The formation of this Honor Society and our journey towards the formation of a Sigma Chapter together with our commitment to the philosophies and consistent delivery of Person-centred Practice in nursing, will we believe, improve and enhance nursing care in our communities.

This key part of our Division of Nursing strategy aligns closely with the mission and goals of Sigma Theta Tau International community of nurses.  The formation of the Omega Xi Chapter together with our commitment to the philosophies and consistent delivery of Person-centred Practice in nursing, will we believe, improve and enhance nursing care in our communities.

Omega Xi Chapter Goals and Aims

  • To communicate regularly with members through updates, social media and online forums and discussions, to build a strong sense of community
  • Grow a strong local and national community of Omega Xi members where nurse leaders and nurse students can share, learn and develop their practice
  • Provide support for learning and professional development of nurse members within our community
  • Provide learning and support through networking opportunities
  • Continue to drive our commitment to the philosophies and consistent delivery of Person-centred Practice in nursing, enhancing nursing care in our communities
  • Provide an annual programme of events that will complement the learning and experiences of our nurse students and practice colleagues
