Andrew Rooke is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker and educator originally from Toronto.

Andrew is currently undertaking a PhD research project at QMU entitled Exploring Masculine Intimacy Through Filmmaking Practice. He completed his undergraduate Film Studies degree at Ryerson University before going on to achieve a Master's degree in Film Directing from the Edinburgh College of Art. His work has been screened in film festivals around the world, as well as on public television.

Outside of his directing work, Andrew was selected as part of the Screen-NETS Runner programme, which allowed him to progress as a part of the camera team in the Scottish film industry. In addition to his work on various television shows, feature films and commercials, he has also created commercials for corporate clients in Edinburgh and abroad.

Andrew developed and currently teaches the Introduction to Filmmaking course at the University of Edinburgh Centre for Open Learning, where he has previously delivered courses in Digital Photography. He has also taught Basic Video Production at Edinburgh College and filmmaking at St Andrews as a part of the ISSOS summer programme.

As an Assistant Lecturer, Andrew teaches on undergraduate media practice modules at QMU. In his role of Media Production Technician, Andrew looks forward to applying his skills as a filmmaker and film educator as he assists students creating innovative media content.

My current PhD project, entitled Exploring Masculine Intimacy Through Filmmaking Practice, aims to explore how male intimacy is performed cinematically and how the use of alternative techniques within casting, scriptwriting and working with actors can adjust representations of male characters and their expression of homosocial love between each other.
