Andrew Rooke is a Lecturer in Media Practice in the Media, Communication and Performing Arts Division. Andrew is also an Affiliate Member of the Centre for Culture in Society Research Group.

Andrew Rooke is an award-winning filmmaker and educator originally from Canada. He is a Lecturer in Media Practice and is the module coordinator on a number of modules relating to film and media.
Andrew is currently undertaking a PhD research project at QMU entitled Fostering Homosocial Bonds Through Filmmaking Practice. He completed his undergraduate degree in Film Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University before going on to achieve a Master's degree in Film Directing from the Edinburgh College of Art.
Andrew’s film have been screened in film festivals around the world, as well as on public television. He has also directed commercials for corporate clients in Edinburgh and abroad. Outside of his directing work, Andrew has worked freelance as a part of the camera team in the Scottish film industry, contributing to various television shows, feature films and commercials.
Andrew has previously delivered filmmaking and photography education as a teaching fellow at the University of Edinburgh Centre for Open Learning. He has also taught Basic Video Production at Edinburgh College and filmmaking at St Andrews as a part of the ISSOS summer programme.
As a Lecturer in Media Practice, Andrew teaches on undergraduate media practice modules at QMU across a variety of degree programmes.
My current PhD project, entitled Fostering Homosocial Bonds Through Filmmaking Practice, aims to synthesise gender theories and film practice in a way that champions actor input and agency within the context of masculinity.
