QMU brings spectacular Acting and Costume Showcase to the stage
QMU to delight live audiences again with spectacular Acting and Costume Showcase
QMU is delighted to bring to the stage a live theatrical performance as part of its final year creative arts student showcase.
This year’s student showcase will be a lively and dramatic joint venture showcasing the talents of students from QMU’s BA (Hons) Acting and Performance and the BA (Hons) Costume Design and Construction courses. Audiences will be treated to an energetic and imaginative showcase with the first half of the event dedicated to singing and acting, and the second half showcasing an array of beautifully crafted costumes inspired by 1930’s cabaret! The theme for the event is Danse Macabre.
QMU’s Costume Promenade has grown to be one of the main highlights in the University’s calendar, with people coming from near and far to admire the beauty and creativity of the stunning costumes which adorn the runway. This year, the wider student showcase is extra special as the collaboration of acting, performance and costume students is sure to create an energetic, flamboyant event which will delight audiences craving the return of live theatre.
"We are particularly excited to bring this collaborative showcase to a live audience. It’s been two years since Costume Showcase last took place and it’s the first showcase that acting and performance students have done for a decade! It’s actually the first showcase for our new BA (Hons) Acting and Performance course, so our students are ready to show everyone what they’ve got and to make a lasting impression. And the heat is on, as industry experts are invited to witness the emerging and versatile talent of final year students just before they step out into the creative industries. The students are all working together to create the overall show – 4th year acting students who will sing and perform for their graduate showcase, will be dressed by the costume students. In the second half, the 3rd and 4th year acting students will wear the costumes which are designed and handmade for their costume promenade."
"Our set design will transport the audience back in time to the intimate and seductive atmosphere of a small theatre in Berlin. There will be a set of 12 characters wearing costumes inspired by the world of 1930’s cabaret so audiences can expect to see a selection of seductive and glamorous creations."
Many of QMU Costume Design and Construction graduates have gone on to create costumes for theatre, film and TV, with some working on popular shows such as ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, ‘The Voice’, and ‘Outlander’, theatrical productions including ‘War Horse’ and ‘Cirque Du Soleil’, and Hollywood blockbusters like ‘Gravity’.
"QMU Costume Showcase 2022 is a wonderful platform for costume, design and construction students to have their costumes shown off by live actors and performers. The creative industries have been badly affected by the pandemic, so we are very much looking forward to having the opportunity to showcase student talent, and then to see what our students go on to do next!"
Costume Showcase 2022 will take place at EH5 Studios, Unit 6, Forth Industrial Centre, Sealcarr Street, Edinburgh, EH5 1RF.
The show will run on Thursday 28th (12.30pm and 7pm) and Friday 29th April (7pm).
