QMU student secures role with social media consultancy

A final year Queen Margaret University student has landed a permanent, part-time Video Marketing Assistant position with fast-growing social media consultancy, Streets Ahead Social.

Denis Busuioc, who is in his fourth year of BA (Hons) Public Relations and Media at QMU, will join the organisation on Monday 26 August having completed a successful 20-day placement as part of his Professional Communication Placement course module.

Streets Ahead Social is the brainchild of QMU graduate, Dane Thomson, and was launched in 2017 to support SMEs to use and build relationships with clients through social media. The business has gone from strength-to-strength, with notable successes including receiving runner-up in the 'New Business of the Year' category of the Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce Awards, and a small screen debut on the Highlands and Islands Enterprise 'Tune into Tourism' show. As Managing Director, Dane also secured an expert commentator slot in global e-publication ContentStandard.

Dane and Denis first met in April 2019 at the QMU PR programme speed networking event, facilitated by QMU senior lecturer and programme leader, Ann Turner. Within the first five minutes, Denis impressed Dane with his interview skills, CV, portfolio and love of all things design- and video-related, and was quickly snapped up for a Video Marketing Assistant placement at Streets Ahead Social.

Sharing his delight about Denis joining Streets Ahead Social permanently, Dane said: "Denis passed his placement with Streets Ahead Social with flying colours. His attention to detail, his willingness to learn and commitment to helping me deliver the best service to Streets Ahead Social’s outstanding clients made it a very easy ‘first hire’ for the business.

"I am so proud of how he’s progressed and bringing him on board marks the beginnings of a very exciting new social media video creation service offered by Streets Ahead Social as well as a brand-new chapter.”

Denis said: "It’s a very exciting opportunity. It’s great to be continuing to work with Streets Ahead Social whilst I finish my studies at the University. I look forward to working with more Streets Ahead Social clients.”
