Student filmmakers screen their work at iconic Filmhouse cinema
The creative talents of QMU’s Film and Media students will play out on the silver screen at the University’s annual Film Showcase at Edinburgh’s iconic Filmhouse cinema next week.
This year's QMU film showcase features ten short films, none longer than ten minutes: six factual films, three dramas and, for the first time ever at QMU, a clay model animation.
The range of documentaries include films about a Nirvana tribute band facing the challenge of recreating the band's iconic MTV Unplugged concert, the memories of Musselburgh's Honest Lasses, a young woman struggling to learn to swim, and a trip to an Artist in rural Italy.
The screening – on Monday 8 July - concludes with three wildly diverse films: a gruesome horror flick, which will have you peering at the action through your fingers; then the aforementioned animation; and finally, to send us out with a laugh, a comedy/drama on the perils of not paying your TV licence!
All of the films will compete for best film and the audience choice award. Students from previous years have gone on to win Scottish BAFTAs and awards at major film festivals. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend what will undoubtedly be an entertaining and fascinating evening.
Graham Drysdale, Lecturer in QMU’s Media, Communication and Performing Arts Division, said: "The QMU students' films this year show an impressive level of professionalism which will enable them to hit the ground running in their fledgling careers.
