QMU graduate’s starring role in Eddie Izzard feature film
A young actor about to graduate from Queen Margaret University (QMU) plays a starring role in a new feature film which premiered at the prestigious Edinburgh International Film Festival recently.
Lewis Gribben, who is set to graduate from QMU’s Acting for Stage and Screen course on 9 July 2019, stars in Boyz in the Wood (directed by Ninian Doff) which features acting giants such as James Cosmo, Georgie Glen, Kevin Guthrie and Eddie Izzard.
Described as ‘delirious, dark and outrageously funny’, Boyz in the Wood is a wild and offbeat journey into the Scottish Highlands that blends biting social commentary with a sprinkle of drugs and violence, and has been making waves since it made its European debut last week. The feature has also been nominated for the 2019 Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film, and opened the Edinburgh International Film Festival on 19 June.
Lewis plays Duncan (an inept arsonist), who - along with three young companions - is left in the rural landscape of the Highlands to undertake his Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition. The four immediately find themselves in trouble, after destroying their only map and being pursued by a pair of tweed-wearing, upper-crust masked terrors (Eddie Izzard and Georgie Glen) who are set on purging the Highlands of disenfranchised youth.
Having come to QMU from the Attic Collective (run by Festival Theatre), Lewis is described by his lecturer Marion Scott as: “a livewire, imaginative and keen to learn - he always made a unique contribution to classes”.
