QMU student begins world-class internship with global healthcare company

By Press Office

An Applied Pharmacology student from QMU has begun a communications internship with global healthcare company, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), thanks to Entrepreneurial Scotland’s Saltire Scholar Internship Programme.

The prestigious programme opens the door of the world's leading companies to some of Scotland's most talented students and provides them with an unparalleled chance to engage with global thought leaders and entrepreneurs. A record-breaking 165 students from 15 universities across Scotland will participate in internships through the programme this summer as it marks its 10th anniversary year.

Katie Graves-Morris, 21, from Düsseldorf, Germany, is spending nine weeks as part of the communications team at GSK in Montrose, Angus, where she will be working on improving graduate recruitment and retainment. She will then spend the final week of her internship at the GSK headquarters in London as part of the company’s Leadership Week.

Commenting on her internship with GSK so far, Katie said: “I’m delighted to be given this opportunity as it opens exciting new doors. Only four weeks in and I’m already learning so much!  Not only have GSK been incredibly supportive in my learning and development, but the Saltire team also ensures you have access to external networking opportunities, which will be invaluable for the future. I would definitely encourage other QMU students to apply for the programme.”

Professor Petra Wend, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of QMU, added: “It’s great to see yet another QMU student benefitting from the Saltire Scholar Internship Programme, which continues to provide the skills, knowledge and life experience that sets our students apart when entering the jobs market. We wish Katie every success with her internship at GlaxoSmithKline and her future career.”

Katie hopes her internship experience with GSK will help determine her career direction after completing her degree at QMU in 2018.
