By Press Office

Dr Marion Ellison Reader in European Public Sociology and Social Policy at QMU and Visiting Professor at Ca’ Foscari University, Venice, led the first European Student Transitions to Employment Project (ESTE) Conference on campus on the 6th and 7th of September.

ESTE is an international study focusing upon the experiences of university students as they undergo the transition between university and employment. The study involves major universities from thirteen European countries and includes universities from Italy, Germany, Spain, Slovenia, Italy, Norway, Greece, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Belgium, Hungary, Malta, Ireland and Scotland.

The European Student Transitions Study (ESTS) builds upon findings from the EU (FP7) INSPIRES Project, of which Dr Ellison is a Permanent Partner for Scotland. The study was launched at the ESTE Conference at QMU in September.

The QMU project team features key members of the University’s Centre for Applied Social Sciences (Director, Chris McVittie), including John Docherty-Hughes, Paul Gilfillan, Eurig Scandrett, Karl Johnson and Dr Ellison.

Dr Marion Ellison, ESTE Project Leader, said: “We once again extend a warm welcome to our European colleagues.  The ESTE project will provide an important platform for universities across Europe to exchange and develop evidenced informed policy and coherent practice for effective student transitions between university and employment”.
