Interview with QMU international student: Renaad Al Balushi, BSc (Hons) Speech & Language Therapy

By Press Office

Renaad Al Balushi, 18, from Muscat in Oman is currently studying BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy full-time at QMU.

Why did you choose to study at QMU?

“I chose QMU to study because its Clinical Audiology, Speech and Language Research Centre is ranked number one in Scotland for the quality of its world class education and research in this area.

“Another reason for choosing QMU was for its location near Edinburgh, which is a city known for being student-friendly.”

Why did you choose to study in Edinburgh/Scotland?

“I visited Edinburgh a year prior to enrolling at QMU. I was fascinated by its heritage and beautiful scenery. Not only that, but the people were extremely friendly and helpful. It showed me that Edinburgh has a student-friendly environment and would be a delight to study in for four years. I didn't hesitate to sign up when I saw that the course I wanted to study was available at QMU.”

What you like best about living in Edinburgh?

“What makes Edinburgh great is that it combines everything you could ask for - great heritage and cultural spots and stories, beautiful green spaces and historic landmarks, and not forgetting its friendly people.

“My favourite attraction is the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh because of its calm atmosphere and picturesque scenery.”

What are your tops tips for future students from Oman who are thinking about coming to study at QMU?

“QMU is a great place to study. You should always ask for help and not hesitate to ask a member of staff when anything is unclear.”

What are your plans after graduating from QMU?

“After graduating from QMU, my plan is to hopefully be a speech and language therapist in Oman after my four years of study.”
