QMU graduate, Colin Crawford, awarded top biology prize
A QMU graduate from Lanark has received a top academic excellence award in biology at Queen Margaret University’s (QMU) recent graduation ceremony held at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh.
Colin Crawford (22), was presented with the prestigious Royal Society of Biology Award for achieving the highest overall mark in the field of human biology and applied pharmacology. This award demonstrates the health sector’s continued commitment to recognising talent and hard work.
Colin, who attended Biggar High School near Lanark, graduated from QMU earlier this month with a First Class BSc Honours Degree in Applied Pharmacology.
Commenting on his award from QMU, Colin said: “Receiving an award like this is such a proud moment. I’ve been able to find a subject that I am passionate about and truly captures my mind, and combined with my hard work and the amazing support from my lecturers at QMU, it’s put me in great stead for future career in academic research – something I am very excited about.
“The academic staff at QMU are passionate and enthusiastic about the subjects they teach, and it really shows and inspires the next generation of scientists to pursue a career within the health sciences.”
Colin now plans to spend his summer carrying out research consultancy work within QMU’s Scottish Centre for Food Development & Innovation. He will then start a Masters degree in Biomedical Science (Integrative Mammalian Biology) at the University of Glasgow, which is being funded by the Scottish Funding Council.
Colin has secured one of only ten funded places on this Masters course. It will allow him to obtain the skills necessary to fulfil his ambition to progress to PhD level study in the field of neuroscience and stroke research.
