New Students’ Union President & Vice President elected at Queen Margaret University
Students at Queen Margaret University (QMU) have elected Heidi Vistisen as the new President of QMU Students’ Union (QMUSU) and Adam Roe as the new Vice President.
Heidi, who is studying BA (Hons) Events Management, replaces Fergus Boden, the current Student President, and Adam takes on the role of Vice President from Johnny Elmer. Both outgoing sabbaticals have held their positions at the helm of the Students’ Union for two years.
Queen Margaret University Students’ Union is a non-profit organisation democratically run by its student members. The Union provides a range of services and facilities including ‘Maggie's’ , a social space which offers students a bar and cafe.
Heidi and Adam’s role underlines QMUSU's commitment to support students and enhance their experience whilst being at university. This is achieved through a wide range of activities including welfare, representation, campaigns, sports and societies and events.
Commenting on their new role, Heidi, the newly elected President, said: “I am incredibly excited to be the next Student President at QMUSU. I will be sad, as I am sure everyone else will be, to see Fergus and Johnny go after two great years, but Adam and I are thoroughly looking forward to working together and building on the good work that has been achieved over the last two years.”
Fergus, the outgoing Student President, said: “It’s one of the best, most rewarding, jobs you could do, and I’m sure that Heidi and Adam are both going to be fantastic.”
Adam, the incoming Vice President, is due to graduate from QMU this summer with a BA (Hons) International Hospitality and Tourism. He explained: “I have been involved with the Student Union - working at Maggie’s - before being elected, I am really excited about this year and the new things our team will bring in terms of engaging and enhancing the student experience.”
He concluded: "While connecting with students at QMU, we also want to engage with local residents and wish to welcome them into the Student Union for coffee, drinks and meals.”
