‘Soar’ stunning aerial footage of Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh by Walid Salhab

By Press Office

Watch this stunning new aerial film by Queen Margaret University’s (QMU) award-winning filmmaker Walid Salhab and colleague Michael Grant from QMU’s Kinetic Film Project. The film shows Queen Margaret University’s campus at Musselburgh, towards the east side of Edinburgh.

Filmed on a sunny day in April 2016, using a DJI Inspire 4K flying camera, Walid captures the scale of QMU’s campus, which encompasses an impressive academic building, students union, sports facilities and student village. The film shows students enjoying the good weather in the landscaped grounds and relaxing on the decking. Walid even captures the swan on the SUDS pond and, if you look closely, you’ll spot music therapy students dancing in the gardens.

Walid’s film demonstrates the University’s proximity to the stunning East Lothian coastline and the surrounding town of Musselburgh. Musselburgh train station is located right next to the University (it takes just 6 minutes to reach Edinburgh’s city centre by train) and the A1 runs alongside the campus. ‘Soar’ also captures Edinburgh’s famous hills – Arthur’s Seat, located next to the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyrood, and the Pentland Hills, situated to the south of the city next to the City By-pass.

Walid Salhab is best known for his breathtaking stop motion/time-lapse films of Edinburgh and East Lothian and his portrayal of the Kelpies near Falkirk, Scotland’s major new cultural landmark.  Contracted by the Helix to produce the Kelpies film, Walid is the only filmmaker to have had access to the complete build phase of the momentous Kelpies structures – thereby visually documenting a period in Scotland’s history.
