Applications open for Scotland’s Saltire Scholarship Scheme 2016

By Press Office

International students are now being invited to apply to Scotland’s Saltire Scholarship Scheme by Sunday 1st May 2016.

The scheme offers international students the opportunity to benefit from a £4,000 discount on their tuition fees for any one year of full time study.

Scholarships are offered on a matched funding basis between the Scottish Government and Scottish higher education Institutions.

The scheme is designed to support the promotion of Scotland as a learning nation and a science nation. It is targeted at the priority sectors of creative industries, life sciences, technology, financial services and renewable and clean energy. These are available across key priority countries, including Canada, China, India and the United States of America.

A successful international student applicant from 2011 is Kavita Murthi from Mumbai in India, who studied MSc Occupational Therapy (post-registration) at QMU.

Commenting on the Saltire Scholarship and her experience of QMU, Kavita said: “The Saltire Scholarship allowed me to pursue my academic studies and my dream of undertaking post-graduate studies at an internationally renowned university. I was awestruck when I reached the beautiful city of Edinburgh and I’m still mesmerised by its beauty.

“My QMU experience has not only immensely changed my outlook towards my profession, but also changed my thinking as a person. I continued to grow both personally and professionally through the program and received tremendous positive support from all QMU programme coordinators and my programme director.

“Through my persistence and the awesome support that I received from my mentors at QMU, not only did I finish my degree on time, but I also got a distinction.”

Kavita has now moved to back to Mumbai and is currently working as a pediatric therapist. She plans to pursue doctorate studies in the future.

Saltire Scholarships are available to students as part of a wider strategy to promote Scotland as a study destination and showcase Scotland’s higher education offering in international markets.

In order to be eligible to apply for a Saltire Scholarship, candidates must have a conditional or unconditional offer of a place at a Scottish university on an eligible course.
