QMU Nursing Awards 2015

By Press Office

The first annual QMU Nursing Awards will take place in 1875 on campus from 6.30pm until 1am on Thursday 28th May 2015.

The annual celebration of achievement ceremony for QMU’s undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students will showcase academic excellence across all years.

Eleven award categories will cover everything from best overall student of the year to excellence in research, health visiting and community nursing.

QMU acting graduate and charity campaigner, Matthew McVarish, will be the special guest speaker at the Awards. Matthew won the premier Top Scot accolade at the 2014 ‘Spirit of Scotland Awards’ in Edinburgh. Star of CBeebies hit TV show, ‘Me Too!’, and Scottish soap opera, ‘River City’, Matthew has spoken out about having been a victim of abuse as a child and has undertaken a 10,000 mile ‘Road to Change’ walk across several countries to raise funds and awareness for child abuse charities and the Moira Anderson Foundation.

The QMU Nursing Awards will be hosted by Professor Brendan McCormack, Head of the Division of Nursing at QMU. Commenting on the Awards, Professor McCormack said: “I’m delighted that we’re celebrating the achievements of our nursing students. QMU students have a reputation for innovation, creativity an excellence in care delivery and it’s important that we celebrate their achievements.

“Nursing at QMU is embedded in a person-centred philosophy and ensuring that we acknowledge the hard work that our students engage in to promote that philosophy in their learning and practice is very important to us as educators.

“This is the first year of the ‘Nursing Awards’ and we’re excited about taking these forward as a core part of our work.”
