Notes on Professional Rights and Registration

* Please note that these programmes do not lead to professional registration in the UK. Contact the individual collaborative partner for details.

** Queen Margaret University has validated the following allied health professional (AHP) programmes in Greece:

  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy (Athens and Thessaloniki)
  • BSc (Hons) Dietetics (Athens and Thessaloniki)
  • BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy (Athens and Thessaloniki)
  • BSc (Hons) Logopaedics (Athens and Thessaloniki)

These programmes are delivered by the AKMI Metropolitan College at their Athens and Thessaloniki campuses. These programmes are not United Kingdom (UK) Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) approved and do not provide eligibility to apply to the HCPC register.  If a graduate from these programmes wishes to work as a registered AHP in the United Kingdom, the graduate would require to apply to the UK Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for registration through the international route.  Applications are considered on an individual basis and further details are available from the HCPC web-site http://www.hcpc-uk.org/. Recent graduates from the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy (Athens) programme have successfully applied to the HCPC through this route. Queen Margaret University and AKMI Metropolitan College cannot guarantee that any individual graduate will be accepted for registration by the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK through the international route.

Graduates of AKMI Metropolitan College, which is operationally licensed by the Greek Ministry of Education, who wish to work as physiotherapists in Greece, need to follow the Greek legal framework the EC Directive 2005/36/E. For further details concerning the legislative framework determining how to be registered as a physiotherapist in Greece and obtain a licence to practice as a physiotherapist in Greece, please visit the Greek Ministry of Education website. Queen Margaret University and AKMI Metropolitan College cannot guarantee that any individual graduate will be accepted for registration as a physiotherapist in Greece and obtain a licence to practice as a physiotherapist in Greece.

Applicants for dietetics, occupational therapy (ergotherapy) and logopaedics (speech and language therapy) programmes are advised to check the registration process for those professions before applying.
