Scottish Centre for Food Development and Innovation (SCFDI)
About Us
The Scottish Centre for Food Development and Innovation (SCFDI) at QMU, Edinburgh are experts in food science and technology.
We help food and drink businesses develop and compete through practical commercially-focused support to improve or develop their products.
The team work with a wide spectrum of businesses, from start-ups to well-known food and drink companies, as well as large UKRI-funded applied research projects.
The team provide food and drink businesses the opportunity to taste test their products with target consumers. Testing can be conducted via home use test, in a commercial environment or in our purpose built sensory suite based at QMU. Consumer testing can assist with:
Benchmarking your product against competitors
Gathering opinions on new innovative products to gain product listings
Determining the success of a reformulation project
Gathering data on likelihood to purchase, drivers or barriers of purchase
Collaborating with Queen Margaret University's Food Technology Department on the development of powdered oat milk has been an exceptional experience. The team's expertise and innovative approach were evident from the outset.
