The postcode for the Student Residences is different from the University building. Using the wrong postcode or incorrect flat details may delay your mail from reaching you or result in it being returned to sender.
Please note that you will only receive your block, flat and room number when you arrive.
Please only arrange for luggage or any other items to be sent to you after you have arrived. Items sent in advance may be returned to the sender as there will be no one to receive the items or put them in your room.

What to bring with you
- Bedding and bed linen, including sheets, pillows and duvets. (Please note Standard Rooms have single beds and Premium Rooms have double beds)
- Towels and tea towels
- Crockery - plates, bowls and mugs
- Cutlery and cooking utensils
- Pots and pans - a couple of saucepans, a frying pan, a baking tray
- Cleaning products and toilet roll
- Basic provisions for the first few days, until you have time to get to the shops
If you decide to bring a television, you will need to arrange for your own TV licence. All rooms have an aerial point, but we cannot guarantee the quality of the TV reception. More information can be found at www.tvlicensing.co.uk.
All electrical equipment you bring must be of safe working order and of good condition
Any items can either be brought with you or purchased from local shops on arrival. Alternatively, you can kit yourself out for Uni through our friends at UniKitOut. You can order bedding, kitchen, and bathroom kits, and more, all delivered directly to your accommodation and waiting for you upon arrival. Plus save 10% with the discount code QMU10.
Please note that UniKitOut is not affiliated with the University. If you enter into a sales agreement with UniKitOut, then it is your responsibility to ensure your moving-in pack is delivered on time. For more information, please contact them directly.
Internet Access
Once you have matriculated, you can connect your own computer to a network point within your room, or by using the Wi-Fi service. For further information regarding IT and technology at QMU, please visit the IT Services page.
Cars
As part of plans to encourage environmental sustainability, we advise students not to bring a car with them. Permits are granted according to set qualifying criteria, and you must obtain a permit before bringing a car. For more details, please visit our Location and Getting Here page.
Bikes
Our Student Residences have lockable bicycle sheds. Bikes may not be left in hallways or bedrooms. If you do bring a bike, bring a lock, and we recommend topping up your basic insurance package to cover it.

What not to bring
Items which are not permitted and which you should not bring with you include: candles, incense sticks, tea lights, BBQs, heaters, chip fryers, smoking equipment such as pipes and ashtrays, dartboards, weapons of any description, either real or replica.
Large items of furniture or equipment are not allowed in student accommodation for health and safety and fire safety reasons.
Pets of any description are also not allowed.
Any prohibited items you bring with you will be confiscated and may result in disciplinary action.
