Martin worked in the Events industry for years but the global pandemic hit the industry hard and his freelance work dried up overnight. Needing a new game plan, he decided to take the opportunity to boost his academic qualifications. At 48, Martin came to QMU as a mature student via Clearing and has benefited greatly from the experience.
How did you find out about the course at QMU?
I knew about Queen Margaret University as my fiancé was studying there, and she recommended it. I looked at the BSc (Hons) Events Management degree at QMU and it seemed right up my street. Given my employment situation due to the pandemic, I had everything to gain and nothing to lose by giving it a try.

Yes, I applied for the course through Clearing. Fortunately, the Clearing system was really easy to use and understand. I had lots of questions, and the admissions and academic staff at Queen Margaret University were really helpful in giving me the clarity that I needed. I felt reassured that I was making the right move and just three weeks after applying through Clearing, I started my course at QMU!
As a mature student, do you have any advice for others considering a return to higher education?
