BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy

This programme is delivered by Metropolitan College, at various campuses across Greece. It is validated by Queen Margaret University. Through our rigorous quality assurance procedures we ensure that the programme has the same academic standards as the equivalent award delivered by QMU.

The overall rationale of the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme is to facilitate the development of graduate physiotherapists with the transferable, intellectual and professional capabilities needed to contribute to sustainable health and well-being of individuals and society, to advance their own practice and that of their profession.

The demands of the Physiotherapy profession are increasing and physiotherapists are required to keep up-to-date with professional and scientific developments and with new applications in the field of physiotherapy.  Consequently there is a need for professionals who are able to be reflective, critical, analytical and evaluative in order that their practice can be effective and evidence-based. The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme aims to produce such professionals.

Key features

Placements :

The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy (Greece) programme provides the student with the opportunity for 1,050 hours of practice experience, integrated throughout the three years of the programme.

In all, there are 5 practice placements in the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy (Greece) programme: one six week placement, three seven -week placements and one three-week elective placement.

Placements are currently undertaken within a range of private hospitals, rehabilitation centres, private physiotherapy clinics, local rehabilitation centres, and daily care clinics. Students can gain experience of inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy. Each student will normally undertake practice placements within a range of clinical areas of physiotherapy practice (neuromusculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological). Students will normally have placements in both acute and community based settings, to ensure alignment with current health and social care contexts.

Professional registration :

Graduates of this programme can obtain their professional rights under the directive of the EU which has been incorporated into Greek law. The European Union directive (Directive 2005/36/EC of the European parliament and of the council of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications), dictates Greek legislation to accept professional qualifications obtained from local educational institutes which are collaborating with EU recognised Universities. According to the EU directive, graduates must apply to the UK Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and once they acquire their professional rights from HCPC, they can then apply to the relevant Greek Legal Body and transfer their professional rights from Britain to Greece. The Greek legislation has created a temporary body, the Hellenic Council for the recognition of professional qualifications (SAEP) of the Ministry of Education for the period until all Greek professions will be legally regulated. In December 2020 Greece introduced a new legislation (Law 4763/2020), according to which the authority of granting professional rights for both regulated and non-regulated professions from EU and third countries have been assigned to the relevant body of the Ministry of Education, called ATEEN.
