About You

Tell us a little about yourself such as your hobbies/interests that are related or not related to your course of study.

I am a Uyghur girl from China Xinjiang Province. I have studied IHTM first year and second year in EASB Singapore, which is one of the Queen Margaret University’s partners. I have an interest in learning and experience different culture, music and dance. I enjoy participating in events such as art and music festivals. I also have aninterest in travel and tourism sectors and in charity organisations, and participate their various activities.

How did you come to choose this course and why QMU?

I chose this course, because I would like to learn about the service sector, particularly the tourism industry. I learned about QMU when I was in Singapore, introduced by Recruitment Officer in EASB.

Why did you choose to study in Edinburgh/Scotland?

Edinburgh is a place that I always wanted to visit. Fortunately I have got the chance to study at QMU.

Living Away from Home

If you are living in halls what’s the best part?

The best part of living in halls is, I can go to library whenever I want to and the library is open for 24/7. It has provided me with convenience and a wide range of resources.

What are the top three items that you packed that you wouldn’t be without?

  1. Bank card
  2. Passport
  3. Laptop

Life in Edinburgh

What’s the best experience you’ve had so far in Edinburgh? Are there any hidden ‘gems’ you’d like to share?

The best experience in Edinburgh so far is there are lots of activities going on, and it's nice to meet friends  from around the globe.

The Course

Did you attend an Open Day? If so was there any aspect of the University which made up your mind for you?

I attended an education fair in Singapore.

What’s been the highlight of the course so far? What have you learnt, or which particular activity has been the most interesting?

For me the highlight and a challenge in 3rd year at QMU has been individual study – in terms of how I allocate my time, effort on each module and how dI apply my research on the assignments.

Any advice for students who might be interested in this course?

I think the IHTM course requires students to have social skills, and particularly it would be better to have a little working experience in the field. This would help students’ learning and understanding of theoretical subjects.

Any future plans after graduation?

After graduating I would like to work with airlines or tourism organisations to gain experiences and further more I would love to take my masters in future.

Life as a Student at QMU

Are you a member of a QMU club or society? If so, what was the reason behind your choice and what do you enjoy most about it?

I am not a member of any society but I would like to apply for the student ambassador team.

What’s your ‘top tip’ for making the most of being a student?

Enjoy the learning process and use university as a platform to expand horizons. There are lots of opportunities for us to explore and prepare ourselves for future careers.
