Hometown: Singapore

About You

I worked with Ministry of Health in Singapore as an administrative staff member before I came over to study. I have spent the past 10 years working in healthcare industry.

How did you come to choose this course and why QMU? Why did you choose to study in Edinburgh/Scotland?

I first came across QMU when I was visiting Edinburgh many years ago and I know QMU has a very good reputation as an established university providing healthcare courses. I went to QMU open days/events in Singapore and met with the representative, and she explained to me about the student life in Edinburgh and Scotland. I would truly say the experience being a student in Edinburgh is priceless and I have learnt so much about the people, food, culture and history. It is also a relatively safe city and I really enjoy the weather here (unlike what others say).

The Course

What did you hope the course would give you? Career change/progression? Continuing personal development?

I have always wanted to work with patients and I have a strong interest in diet/nutrition. I am hoping to progress as a registered dietitian and continue my service and contribution to the community.

How did you find the work load? Could you comment on the support available to you whilst studying?

The workload was manageable, although time management and organisation are important. I find the online support/material and remote access from the Hub are very useful, especially for students living outside the campus.

Are you employed whilst studying?

I have received a QMU International Scholarship for this course - such a prestigious award and an honour to receive it.

How is your award/scholarship/bursary helping you with your studies?

It definitely has helped by removing certain financial barriers and has made life easier as a student.

How do you think your QMU degree has equipped you with the skills/knowledge to development your career?

QMU has equipped me with knowledge through proactive learning and placement opportunities, which have helped me to continue to learn, motivated and stay challenged throughout my learning process.

What advice would you give prospective PG students?

Go out explore and say yes to every opportunity that comes your way; be prepared to be amazed by QMU!

Life after graduation

What are your future plans once you have completed the course?

Moving forward with dietitian registration as I want to work in patient care/services within the same industry and make a real contribution, either in Scotland or other parts of the world.
