BA (H) Communication Studies

Why did you choose to study at QMU?

When I was leaving school I had no idea really what I wanted to do, not specifically anyway. I left it too late to apply for a degree so did it gradually, first by doing an HND at Fife College.  After graduating that got me into the 2nd year of the Communications degree at QMU.  A few of the other people on my course were doing the same and I’d always loved the idea of Edinburgh.

What was the highlight of the course?

If I'm being totally honest I managed to get work experience at the local radio station just before I started the degree and spent more time that I should have at the station rather than at Uni. I loved the practical side of things.  Radio and Video production and also loved that I got to write about Pulp Fiction for my film studies.

Did you enjoying living away from home?

Yes I loved living away from home but specially Edinburgh, such an exciting city with so much to offer day and night.

Life after graduation?

I moved onto a Graduate training scheme with EMAP Radio that got me down to London, then i just sent out loads of show reels and didn’t take no for an answer.

Alumni Wisdom:

If you could offer one piece of advice to current students what would it be? Don’t take no for an answer. If the college aren’t providing the outlet you want then set it up  yourself.
